China may be eager to sell Waldorf Astoria after seizing control.

The Chinese government just took control of the Waldorf Astoria — but it doesn’t seem to be interested in revamping the lobby or improving the room service. Industry insiders say Beijing looks eager to unload the Park Avenue landmark after seizing it on Friday from Anbang, a free-spending insurance conglomerate, whose chairman Wu Xiaohui is...

Industry insiders say Beijing looks eager to unload the Park Avenue landmark after seizing it on Friday from Anbang, a free-spending insurance conglomerate, whose chairman Wu Xiaohui is accused of economic crimes.

Anbang, which shelled out nearly $2 billion in 2015 to buy the storied hotel from Blackstone Group, had lately been in talks to sell the chain back to the giant buyout fund, Bloomberg reported last week.

“It’s obvious the Waldorf will be on the market for sale,” says Geoffrey Mills, president of GAM Hospitality Advisors. “The question is, would the Chinese government want to be the owners of the Waldorf Astoria or are they looking to bring funds back to China, which is something they have already indicated.”

One source familiar with the situation insisted that it’s “highly unlikely that Blackstone would buy the Waldorf” and that “the whole Anbang situation means very little to Blackstone now.”

The source added that Blackstone now owns just a small stake in Hilton Worldwide, which has a 100-year contract to operate the Waldorf.

Hilton, for its part, maintains that the property will remain under its management regardless of the latest news.

“It’s business as usual for us,” a Hilton spokesman told The Post.

On Friday, sources close to Anbang said a three-year, $2 billion renovation and demolition of the Waldorf, which began in December under Aecom Tishman, is continuing.

Hilton CEO Christopher Nassetta said last week he didn’t believe Anbang was selling the Waldorf, but he didn’t rule out the possibility that it could.
