“Though we cannot bring Haley Anderson back — we will fight for justice,” Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell said as he detailed second degree murder charges against Orlando Tercero, who authorities said fled to his native Nicaragua some time before the 22-year-old’s body was discovered March 9 at Tercero’s Oak Street home.
Tercero, 22, who holds dual Nicaraguan and U.S. citizenship, was captured by Nicaraguan authorities at the Hospital de León, where he was getting treated for self-inflicted wounds, officials said.
Authorities vowed to return the alleged killer to US soil.
“We’re going to do everything we can to make sure that he returns,” Cornwell said.“It could be as soon as a plane ride to Texas or Florida or as long as it takes but he will be back,” he added.
Binghamton police said Tercero, alos a nursing student, and Anderson occasionally dated.
Anderson’s roommate told the Post that Tercero was obsessed — and jealous because she spurned him for an on-again, off-again boyfriend.
