De Blasio cruises to victory in Democratic mayoral primary.

The incumbent mayor trounced little-known former City Council member Sal Albanese and other long-shot hopefuls in a race that was never competitive.

With 40 percent of precincts reporting, de Blasio had 70.75 percent of the votes, or 44,417 votes, the Board of Elections said.

Albanese was trailing behind with 17.84 percent, or 25,634 votes.

NY1 called the race for de Blasio.

With the economy up and crime continuing its steady decline, no established contenders were willing to risk losing their current seats to challenge the incumbent mayor.

A number of Democrats had flirted with the idea of running while Hizzoner was under investigation for nearly a year, but abandoned the notion when state and federal probes into de Blasio’s relationship with big-dollar donors were closed in March with no charges filed.

De Blasio made two public appearances on Tuesday morning — one of them to vote in his old neighborhood of Park Slope — before hitting the gym and visiting his favorite Brooklyn patisserie.

He had no other public events on his schedule until his evening campaign party at the event space Roulette in downtown Brooklyn, where he was expected to quickly pivot his focus to GOP mayoral nominee Nicole Malliotakis.

The mayor campaigned on what he called his big accomplishments — including the expansion of universal pre-K — and that message resonated with a significant number of voters.

“You need someone who’ll help out parents like myself,” said Marcos Perez, 54, a retired military veteran who voted at PS 58 in Carroll Gardens.

Perez cited the quick snowstorm cleanups in the neighborhood and the mayor’s work on pre-K as reasons for his support.

“He’s battling with everyone to get his agenda through — he’s fighting for the people,” said Perez. “I really see him trying.”

Others acknowledged holding their noses while they filled in the bubble for Hizzoner.

Jean Powers, 57, of Tribeca said she went with de Blasio because he seemed “more animal friendly” than his primary opponents, although she was disappointed he failed to keep his 2013 campaign promise of booting horse drawn carriages from Central Park.

“I didn’t want to [vote for him], but I did,” she said outside PS 234 in Manhattan. “I’m not happy with the way the city is,” she added. “There’s a lot more homeless down here. I’ve given more food to homeless people in the past year than in the past twenty years.”

Ken Esposito, 79, wouldn’t say whom he voted for at the polling site at PS 58 in Brooklyn.

But he made it clear he sought to end the mayor’s employment with the city by year’s end.

“I think he’s a crook,” he said. “I’d tell you that I’d consider voting for him for dog catcher, but that would be an insult to dog catchers.”
