Meet Pat Shurmur’s staff, which is a lot different than McAdoo’s.

Pat Shurmur is in the final stages of completing his coaching staff and it bears only a slight resemblance to the one left behind by Ben McAdoo. Most notably, all three coordinators are newcomers, although one of them previously worked for the Giants. The last piece of the puzzle was found this week, when Shurmur...

The last piece of the puzzle was found this week, when Shurmur hired Mike Shula to serve in the dual role of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The Giants have not made most of these additions official yet, but are expected to unveil the entire coaching staff this week. Here is what Shurmur’s staff looks like at this point:

Offense

Coordinator: Mike Shula

Son of Hall of Fame coach Don Shula, former quarterback and head coach at Alabama, ran the Panthers offense the past five years. Will also serve as quarterbacks coach. Helped mold Cam Newton into a franchise player and will inherit Eli Manning, Davis Webb and, most likely, a rookie taken with the second pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Running backs: Craig Johnson

Hired by Tom Coughlin in 2014, remained on McAdoo’s staff and retained by Shurmur. Production in the backfield has not been good but the running back talent has been sparse and Shurmur must like his teaching skills.

Wide receivers: Tyke Tolbert

Former LSU receiver (hey, just like Odell Beckham Jr!) and actually was a college teammate of Beckham’s father. Extensive NFL experience coaching receivers, most recently with the Broncos.

Offensive line: Hal Hunter

Most recently spent one year in Cleveland as offensive line coach but was out of football in 2017. Once held title of Chargers offensive coordinator. Can he do what those before him could not: Make something out of Ereck Flowers?

Tight ends: Lunda Wells

Initially hired by Coughlin in 2012, Wells moves from the offensive line to new role working with the tight ends. Reportedly, the Giants staved off interest from the Raiders to keep him on staff.

Assistant offensive line: Ben Wilkerson

Played for the Bengals and Falcons, was on the Bears coaching staff the past three years.

Offensive assistant: Ryan Roeder

Has been with the Giants since 2013, so he must be doing something right to survive two regime changes. Former quarterback at University of Albany.

Defense

Coordinator: James Beetcher

Considered a rising star and probably the most significant hire by Shurmur. Excellent three-year run as Cardinals defensive coordinator (he replaced Todd Bowles) relying heavily on blitz packages and 3-4 defensive front. At 39 years old, he picked the Giants over the Titans. There is talent on the roster for Beetcher to cultivate and perhaps he will be a more forceful leader than popular Steve Spagnuolo.

Defensive line: Gary Emanuel

This 59-year old has extensive experience coaching defensive lines in college – including stops at Syracuse and Rutgers – and was with the Colts the past six years. He gets to work with the highly-paid veteran trio of Jason Pierre-Paul, Olivier Vernon and Damon “Snacks’’ Harrison, so the challenge is motivating and directing a high-profile group.

Linebackers: Bill McGovern

Here is someone hired by McAdoo who survived the upheaval – working with Shurmur with the Eagles certainly did not hurt. Affable native of New Jersey (Bergen Catholic High School) spent 13 years coaching linebackers at Boston College.

Defensive backs: Lou Anarumo

Represents Staten Island as a native of that borough. Spent the past six years with the Dolphins. Figures to have his hands full dealing with the suspension-laden cornerback corps he inherits.

Assistant defensive backs: Deshea Townsend

Played 12 of his 13 NFL seasons for the Steelers and then moved directly into coaching, working with the Cardinals and Titans.

Special teams

Coordinator: Thomas McGaughey

Was with the Giants from 2007 through 2010 as a special teams assistant and is coming off a strong stay in Carolina, where the Panthers were ranked 10th in special teams in 2017. Previously led the Jets and 49ers special teams and will try to enliven the dormant Giants’ return game.

Assistant special teams coordinator: Anthony Blevins

Interesting resume, as he coached in the XFL and has a PhD in Instructional Systems and Work Force Development from Mississippi State. Was with the Cardinals the past five years.

Head coach assistant: Chris Pridy

Another returnee who stays in the organization. He is the guy you often see on the TV screen standing directly behind the head coach on the sideline.
