Yankees can’t make 10 runs hold up in shootout loss to Rangers.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Best Bat Show On Earth did its part Wednesday night only to watch the Yankees’ arms wilt in the late-May Texas heat. CC Sabathia flushed an early four-run bulge and then turned a five-run pillow into a three-run lead in the fifth that Chasen Shreve and David Robertson allowed to slip...

CC Sabathia flushed an early four-run bulge and then turned a five-run pillow into a three-run lead in the fifth that Chasen Shreve and David Robertson allowed to slip out of Globe Life Park by giving up four runs in the sixth.

Nobody knows what June, July, August and September are going to deliver but it’s hard to believe the Yankees will suffer a more crushing loss than the 12-10 defeat the putrid Rangers hung on them in front of 31,304.

With the Angels and Astros awaiting the Yankees in The Bronx, they dropped two of three to the Rangers.

Didi Gregorius, Neil Walker and Gleyber Torres homered and with a 4-0 lead after three innings and a 10-5 cushion entering the home fifth the Yankees were poised to take two of three onto the plane home.

Instead Sabathia gave up seven runs and six hits (two homers) in 4 ¹/₃ innings.

Dellin Betances’ throwing error trying to pick off Delino DeShields led to an eighth-inning run that upped the Rangers’ lead to 12-10. Shreve left Robertson with two runners on in the sixth inning, one out and the Yankees leading, 10-7. By the time Robertson recorded the third out the Rangers had scored four runs and led, 11-10.

Robertson walked Isiah Kiner-Falefa to force in a run and gave up a three-run double to Jurickson Profar to vault the Rangers into a one-run lead.

Staked to a 10-5 cushion and needing three outs to qualify for a milestone victory Sabathia didn’t make it out of the fifth and wasn’t in position for his 240th career win which would have tied Frank Tanana for 55th place on the all-time list and Tanana for 14th on the all-time list for lefties.

Shin-Soo Choo singled with one out and scored when Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s base hit down the right-field line hit the side wall and scooted by Aaron Judge for a triple. Kiner-Falefa scored on Nomar Mazara’s single and Jonathan Holder replaced Sabathia. Profar greeted Holder with a single to right that put runners at the corners for Rougned Odor who struck out. Holder stranded two by feeding Ryan Rua a ground ball out.

After Sabathia flushed a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning when he gave up five, the Yankees answered with six in the fifth when Torres and Judge homered.

Neil Walker singled with one out, went to third on Miguel Andujar’s double to left and scored on Austin Romine’s ground single to right. With runners at the corners Torres crushed a 0-2 pitched clocked at 88-mph into the left field seats to put the Yankees ahead, 8-5.

Tony Barnette took over for Doug Fister who gave up eight runs (six earned) and 11 hits (three homers) in 4 ¹/₃ innings. Barnette watched Brett Gardner hustle a single to center into a double and then sprained his neck tracking Judge’s home run that cleared the Yankees bullpen and landed in the seats against a back wall. It was measured at 471 feet and upped the Yankees’ lead to 10-5.

Mazara’s two-run homer to right-center in the fourth off a 79-mph slider from Sabathia cut the Yankees’ lead to 4-2 and somewhat made up for the Rangers’ sloppy infield play in the first two innings.

Sabathia allowed a walk and no hits through three innings and gave up a leadoff single to Choo in the fourth. With one out Mazara launched a 0-2 pitch for his 11th homer. The frame continued when Jurickson Profar walked with one out and Ryan Rue with two gone.

Behind in the count, 1-2, Ronald Guzman, the No. 8 hitter, hit a 1-2 pitch off the top of the right-field fence and into the seats for a three-run homer and a 5-4 Rangers lead. It was the third straight game the left-handed hitting first baseman homered and raised his season total to five.

Three runs in the first when Gregorius homered for the first time since April 27 and Neil Walker led off the fourth with a homer provided the feel that the Yankees were in the early stages of a romp.

Judge reached on a one-out throwing error by Profar at short and Gregorius, who started the game in a horrific 3-for-54 (.056) slump, reached the seats in right-center for his 11th homer. Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Hicks singled and Andujar’s infield single loaded the bases for Romine. Fister walked Romine to force home Stanton for a 4-0 advantage.
